Locating Installed Applications in Windows 8

Unlike previous version of Windows, Windows 8 does not include a traditional Start Menu on the desktop screen.  It is however possible to add frequently used applications to the desktop taskbar or the Metro start screen for easy access.

To add an application to the Metro Start Screen:-
  1. Move the mouse cursor into the top right hand corner until the charms bar is displayed.
  2. Click 'Search' to display the apps screen.
  3. Use the scroll bar or type the application name in the supplied box to locate the required application.
  4. Right click on the application and choose .'Pin to Start'
  5. The application will now be visible on the Metro Start screen as a new tile and can be moved by simply dragging it to the required location.
To add an application to the Windows Desktop task bar:-
  1. Move the mouse cursor into the top right hand corner until the charms bar is displayed.
  2. Click 'Search' to display the apps screen.
  3. Use the scroll bar or type the application name in the supplied box to locate the required application.
  4. Right click on the application and choose .'Pin to Taskbar'
  5. The application will now be visible on the Windows desktop task bar.
To launch an application that is not included on the Metro start screen or the Windows taskbar:-
  1. Move the mouse cursor into the top right hand corner until the charms bar is displayed.
  2. Click 'Search' to display the apps screen.
  3. Use the scroll bar or type the application name in the supplied box to locate the required application.
  4. Right click on the application and choose .'Open in New Window'
  5. The application will launched automatically and be displayed on the Windows desktop if necessary.
